If you can imagine riding cobblestones in the 1800’s on a rudimentary steel bicycle with wooden carriage wheels, then you’ll know how The Boneshaker Bicycle got its name. This University Bicycles Antique Collection T-Shirt pays homage to the early pioneers and their “crazy” ideas that helped shape the bikes we ride today.
Text on back:
The oldest bike in the collection! Also called a Velocipede meaning human powered land vehicle with two or more wheels. Coming from France and first manufactured by the Michaux company from 1867 to 1869, this marked a time of real interest in bicycles and was copied by many others. It fell out of favor after 1869 and was replaced in 1870 with a type of bicycle called "Ordinary," "High-wheel," or "Penny Farthing.
